News
7/1/08 F%$* Sadness. Now George Carlin has bit the dust. Last month Bo, now George. Cut it out. News is good over here. As you'll see from the interview conducted by "Sham" magazine in the blog below I'm working on my next record and putting a lot more time into it then normal, which by all accounts should be a good thing. I put out a record of minute long songs this past month that is also featured on the blog, and there's a few new videos in the works that when they show up will be nothing but good times. I'm setting up some shows for a September tour, so if you're interested in seeing my play and you can venue suggestions, anything like that feel free to email me here . Try not to blow yourselves up this weekend. And remember, ADD is not a good excuse for anything, now a days it's just "gas prices". try it out.
"Hey, why are you late for work!?"
"gas prices"
"oh yeah... oh yeah"
6/2/08 now it's time for the break down. RIP Bo Diddley. I was just reading about him and the particular article I read chose to focus on how he never felt like he got paid fairly and therefore had to spend the rest of his days touring until his health declined. I don't know. Bo Diddley = hell yeah, and we all wish we were paid more, but I can't help but wonder if he wasn't a glass half empty sort of cat. I suppose if you're playing the blues what more could you be? Anyhow, I just finished up a long ass tour, 8 weeks to be exact. Not all of it was perfect, but most of it was. I had a lot of fun, met a lot of great people, and played a lot of music. All things that I'm really proud of and excited to do again in the fall. In the meantime I guess the news is that I'll be finishing off a record or two (I'm considering doing a very very short record, not an ep, but a short record, you'll see) working out a bunch and riding my bike, and catching up with my friends in the area as well as chasing my rabbit around some more. More news soon. If you're looking to hear my play some covers and see various films taken while touring check out my video page at you tube by clicking here.
5/17/08 Boston Jestea party. As you can see via the shows section I've been a busy bee. Touring has been the name of the game, and playing shows and catching up with old friends and making new friends in the name of the game. Somehow while touring I'm managing to keep afloat with recording and working out the details for the next record and I've begun to film all sorts of crazy performances and sketches which will start to show up with greater frequency on this site. for a more thourough recap of my touring adventures check my myspace page (the obligatory one) for tour journal updates and random silliness. If you're in the area where I'm playing, come out and say hey.
4/16/08 myspace yourspace we all scream for myspace for those of you who were hoping for a song of the month as opposed to the further promotion of the "february" record, you are in for a treat. a sweet delectable treat. go to my myspace by clicking any of these words starting with the world myspace up till the word now. you'll be treated to a new song called "wasn't that funny" and if you're into blogs, the blog on my myspace has been updated with a series of 4 videos I called the "messy hair cover series" where I cover a bunch of songs I adore with really nasty morning hair. Enjoy
4/15/08 I had a dream that I shaved my beard news up the wahzoo. some of it legit. I'm doing a bunch of touring for the next month and a half, and I'm starting to get in the final stretch with the new record as far as tracking goes. Then there's the podcast I was on, episode 43 of the robot40.com. I also composed and performed the theme song for the newest robot 40 podcast. I just got back from South Carolina where I made a handful of new recordings with Love Scream mate Joshua Kaler. I grew a beard over a three week period and performed to a packed house at the Beachland Ballroom with Lottery League band Bourbon Outfitters and then performed to 7 people the next night just to humble myself out. Things are going pretty good. I'm not gonna lie, it's frustrating being a one man operation who is known to procrastinate, but I've met some incredible people thus far and intend to keep on doing so. So if you're incredible, watch out, cause I'm going to meet you. Oh yeah, "Finally, Joshua Jesty is February is disappearing off the face of the earth at the end of this month! Get it while you can.
3/10/08 well, gas is going up to $28 a gallon then. Alright, let's go tour. I figure if I don't eat twice a week I'll save up the extra needed for gas, and really, who needs to eat anyway? What else is news. I'm touring, I just put out a record that will only be available through this site for a month and a half, and I'm in a band in cleveland that is slated for one show in April. we've written and recorded one song and hopefully we'll do a few more before I take off and put up a myspace page to show for all our work. There's also a small possibility of another pinkerton show, but I don't even know enough about that say anything, I shouldn't have even said anything. that's all over here. Everyone stay warm and try not to have to drive in horrible snow storm conditions, it only leads to car crashes and shoveling.
2/4/08 heart shaped box cutter. So apparently February is the month that doesn't wanna quit. Apparently, there's a site called RPM that challenges those who are up to it to write a 10 song record within the month of February. I'm interested in that. I think there's a site that wants a book written with in a month (maybe that was another month) but I'm interested in that as well. And then there's the matter of the record I've been working on that I think is about finished (writing wise that is) and the taxes (which are a painful distraction from anything fun) and the tour booking which is due to take place very soon cause March is when the Madness goes down. So here in no particular order is what I intend to do before this month is over
- finish writing the story I started writing called "Fredrick and the 10 dogs"
- finish tracking most all of the next record and have it ready for further mixing/mastering when I get back from tour
- give the whole record in a month thing a whirl (I'll post results up here as frequently as I can)
- take a 3 day vacation
- attempt to not run out of money
- scream "yeah" more often.
and that's about that for this that is that. Have a great February, feel free to join in on the record making and story writing, and keep your eyes peeled for the upcoming shows as I'm sure they'll all be last minute and any help I can get to promote them is greatly appreciated.
1/2/07 2008 = greatest year ever. that's it. I'm calling it right now. For you and you and you and myself, this is going to be the year. 8 rhymes with great, interest rate, impaled your least favorite political figure on a gate. There's no way this one can't kick ass and take a few names at least. I'll be hitting the road in March, and who knows, I might be crashing on your very couch, and trying to overcome my habit of sleep eating everything in your fridge. I kid I kid. I don't sleep eat, but apparently I snore with the fury of the devil himself. Anyhow, there's no big news this month, it's just a getting over the holidays and trying to overcome debts and getting ready for taxes kinda month.
12/2/07 in your Facebook. All is not well. In the process of trying to ween myself off of myspace a bit more I ended up getting into facebook, which at first I completely blew off, adding a few friends here and there and avoiding all applications at all costs. Just this past week I went crazy, found a bunch of friends and relatives on there and added a reverbnation player that features 10 unreleased songs from years past a few present recordings too. I'm starting a new email list through reverbnation as well as it seems to function better then the old star polish one which keeps freezing up. So please add yourself to the list as I want to start fresh and know that everyone on this mailing list is current and interested in knowing what I'm doing in email form from time to time. You'll find the sign up on this page, as well as facebook and myspace.
There's a big last show in Cleveland coming up and thanks to a near death experience in Wooster my Wooster show got postponed for a few days. Either way, both of these will go down, and if you're in the Cleveland area, look to your right and mark down December 19th (wednesday). It's going to be my birthday, year end, possibly last show in Cleveland show, so I'm gonna make it count, as should you.
11/7/07 Megaleg. I think that's the name I should give the super mega unpredictable tour route I intend on taking in February of 2008. I'm a bit disappointed in myself for a few reasons. I did not follow through with the tours I wanted to do in October and November. I would like to blame other people and places and events but ultimately I just didn't have the fight in me to forge ahead. The big issues besides my laziness where 1. not have anymore Cds to tour with, and there were some issues with the pressing plant I chose that were out of my control and 2. it's just been a little rough financially due to the bet I made with myself to go see every show that appealed to me this year. I've seen a ton of great shows but you know the trade off. Less money in the coffee can of savings for my own personal road adventures. I'm proud of how the Pinkerton show turned out and it was a thrill to play a loud rock show again after some time away from it. Other then that it's a slow news month for me. I hope you're all doing well.
9/30/07 ain't no half stepping. I just wanted to give a big thanks to everyone who I got to meet and catch up with during the September tour. By all accounts it was a success and I hope to hit all the places I played much sooner then later. My blog this month will be a tour journal style entry with all the pictures and stories you could ever imagine. But that won't be up right away.
at the bottom of the downloadable record is newly added artwork. Avast ye.
to all of you fine internet viewers you are going to get a heck of an update as there's a Music Video that will be popping up soon, and a bunch of new songs and pictures in the bio section. I hope your hearts don't burst with joy cause I really would prefer you to stick around.
my friends from Oh My God (www.ohmygodmusic.com) were in a terrible accident while on tour this past month. any money that I make from CD sales/donations online and physically this month will go to the boys of Oh My God who no doubt are in over there heads in unexpected medical bills. Of course, you can go over to their website and order Oh My God music as well and every little bit helps. Also, you'll get some great music out of it.
that's the news, not as funny as SNL, but better then anything Mad TV has ever done, EVER.
8/2/07 I'm Not Worried. there is actually a decent amount of news to tell you of. You might be hearing Joshua Jesty songs and or this is exploding songs on upcoming Mtv programs for fractions of a second. You might be seeing Josh play his first solo tour ever if you're in the Toledo/Detroit/Kalamazoo/Chicago area, and if you work with Josh, you might notice that he left his shoes in the area where most of the ladies keep their purses. How sweet of him. Then there's the video shoot that's in the works, some more touring being planned, and there's a chance that you could see Josh's take on "Silent Night" in record stores this coming holiday season, or at the very least on I-tunes. Of course, then again you may never hear it, the video may never get shot, and Josh's car might blow up before he gets 10 miles away from his house. Still, it's news worthy, and it's more likely to happen then the Van Halen reunion tour. Kudos to Michael Anthony for being classy about the whole thing though. You can play bass with me anytime.... anytime the roots aren't on tour, this is exploding isn't reuniting, or Evan isn't taking some weird socio-political-culinary based classes. Michael, I'm sorry, it's nothing against you, but now that I think about it, the opportunity for you to play bass with me might be very minimal if not non-existent. I hope you'll understand.
7/29/07 Gun Jumping. Fancy that, I'm early to the monthly update this week. Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm sure I'll write this early and post it late, but it's the thought that counts right? Things are going good. More news that is relevant could very well start popping up in the future. So, clean the plague out of your eyes and get ready for that.
7/5/07 the master class on napping shouldn't have held their final exam on the 4th of July. Fireworks, bottle rockets, PB and J sandwiches thrown in the air. It was all over the place, I was all over the place. Once again my monthly update is belated and for that I apologize. I might have to dig up some extra song goodness for you just to compensate. this is exploding opened for Ozma this past weekend, which would have been an honor if they had showed up. All is well, but there is not much to say in the news department. Thanks for listening and spreading the word about this site, it is greatly appreciated. There are some new pictures in my "Charter, Reference, Cloud" album on my myspace page. have a look won't you. Take care and drop me a line with any questions you have.
6/7/07 I'm showing up fashionably late to my party. Well, save for the fashion part as I have no fashion sense. Since I'm late to the hoe-down this month I decided to put up a few songs this week as opposed to one. I hope you enjoy. New things are in the works. I'm thinking of getting some more videos and games on this page in the near future. Also, check out my myspace page if you're into playing games, not emotional heart wrenching ones, but name that quote ones. Rules will be laid out in a blog on the myspace page. hop hop hop.
5/1/07 Spring is here again, reproductive glands. what can you say? it's freaking spring, and it's kinda beautiful, a little hot, a little cold, at times rainy. global warming is eating us whole and there's not much we can do about it except all sorts of little things that feel like a big difference until you see the putz two streets down showing off his new Hummer to his neighbor as you jog past. this is exploding just hit the studio recently with a vengeance, and I'm very happy and excited about that. for a few months my songs were taking and darker and darker tone and now I can feel an upswing underway. I guess time will tell. As far as news, I'm watching every episode of arrested development and writing more music between breaks from work, which is increasingly taking up my time and leaving me less then satisfied in that department. well, you can't have every typewriter typing your story the same way can you?
4/2/07 April Fools have spread to the point where it's all year round fools. Thanks to everyone who has been looking over this site, writing reviews, dropping lines, making this internet a more social and lovely place to be. Thanks to everyone who came out to the first two official solo shows I've had in a long time. No new solo shows to speak of, but maybe some open mics in the near future. So you never know when you might catch me. this is exploding has been holed up in the studio but there are 3 new tracks on our myspace page, check it. till next time. Oh oh, also new songs posted on my myspace page
3/4/07 George Mucas: wah wah wah me me me, I'm feeling a bit under the weather, mixing for this is exploding's 2nd release has commenced, we're going down to SXSW soon and so that as well as my pitiful rock star finances have been occupying my time and though as of recent. Not to mention I've been under the weather a bit recently. I know boo hoo boo hoo. Still this is called news, not credible news. If you want that go watch Fox... AH HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
-2/9/07 Jesty Monthly arises: a new friend of the joshuaweb has come to be. It's the Jesty Monthly feature and it can be found right below the news and shows listing. It'll have a new song of the month as well as a completely unnecessary blog and a contest for every month. Some of the contests will even be real! so watch out for those. Also watch out for clowns... god hates clowns, why do I know this. I've read the bible.
- 1/10/07 it's on! and by on I mean the re-re-mastered version of "Finally, Joshua Jesty is Famous, all the hits: Volume 15" is up with a few new tracks and one of the old ones missing. How is your new year going? I hope well.... really... that's neat, I can't really tell what you're saying cause I'm a computer. tell josh how your new year is going by emailing him here
- 9/28/06 "you got the grammar thing down" : in an attempt to look less like an idiot, josh has corrected a bunch of typos that have been on this page for months. please inform him of any further faults in spelling or grammar at joshua@thisisexploding.com
- 9/25/06 "Finally, joshua jesty is releasing the sophomore flop we've been waiting for in a condensed version!" : being as he's been bored and prolific as of recent, joshua took time to record and release an 4 song EP on his myspace page. Who knows how long it will be till he gets bored and get and puts up some more stuff, so hurry up and devour this music while it exists.
9/8/06 - "Finally, joshua jesty puts up his solo music site" : Joshua, in a move the emulates something other then laziness put up "Finally, joshua jesty is famous, all the hits, volume 15" today. It's been 6 six years in the making, and you wouldn't believe the amount of b-side companion records that could be put out. I mean, there could be more posthumous records then Tupac in the vaults at this point. But here for you now, is "Finally..." Finally.
